WHAT WE LOOK FOR

 

Desiderata’s content is driven by submission from our readers. The main idea is to provide a platform for our readers to share their stories. We look for submissions particularly for these two segments: Places to Explore, Travelogue and Recipe. We normally look for photoessays 

or photo series.

 

 

Places to explore: A segment for all the locations in Malaysia. We feature locations that are not as popular but would surprise our readers.

 

 

Travelogue: A segment for locations out of Malaysia.

 

 

Recipe: Features recipes with impeccable food styling.

 

 

We appreciate crazy ideas so if you have story pitches that are not limited to the formats mentioned above, do send us your pitch. We’d be happy to discuss this further.

 

 

 

 

YOUR SUBMISSION

 

Here are some rules that your submission must comply with:

 

 

Unpublished Materials

We prefer unpublished materials, however if you’re still keen to feature your works in

the magazine, our team will put it under consideration. Please let us know the name, 

month and year of the publication your work was featured in.

 

 

Direction

Article direction and photo selection is entirely up to the Desiderata creative team. 

will try our best to ensure that the article comes out the way you’ve intended. 

However we hope you would also understand that Desiderata has its own style and 

vibe that we need to maintain.

 

 

Online

If chosen, your work will be featured in either the magazine or online journal, both 

have completely different content. The online journal acts as a supplementary piece 

for the magazine.

 

Copyright

Please check and make sure that you are the owner of the intellectual property rights 

of the submitted content. Plagiarism is not cool.The copyright ownership of your article

and photos still belongs to you.

 

 

 

FORMAT

 

Essays

 

• Please send them in a Microsoft Word document. It’s best if you name the file after 

   the title of your essay.

• The length should be around 500 to 1200 words, but this varies according to 

 

Segments.

 

• We will have copy editors and sub-editors to edit your work but it’s always good for 

   you to edit your work first.

 

Photos

 

• Send your photos in its original, unedited form. Our design team will do the editing 

   as necessary.

• We accept photos in high resolution. Instagram photos are not accepted.

 

 

 

CONTRIBUTOR PERKS

 

For the time being, we are unable to pay our contributors but we will give the appropriate credits to you. Here are the things that we are able to give to you:

 

• A copy of the magazine – according to the issue your work was featured in. However, 

  this does not apply for online journal submissions.

• A short profile on our Contributors page.

• Exposure of your work to our readers not just in Malaysia but overseas as well. We 

  have readers from all over the world including Singapore, Japan, United Kingdom and more!

 

 

We will give you the appropriate credits for your work and again, the copyright ownership of your article and photos belong to you.If you’re happy with the conditions above, send in your work at submission@desideratamag.com.
